Northeast Mixmaster Project

The DOT is nearing the end of a nearly two-decade-long project to reconstruct the Northeast Mixmaster where Interstates 235, 35 and 80 meet between Des Moines and Ankeny. Previous work included the construction of a flyover bridge from eastbound I-80 to northbound I-35. Traffic will continue to be disrupted as crews continue to shift lanes to ease weaving issues. Drivers are currently using the newly built westbound lanes and the old westbound lanes while new eastbound lanes are being constructed. During the winter, traffic will return to split lanes once contractors begin work in the median, marking the final phase of construction.
