Description

Description

The Northeast Supply Enhancement Project (NESE) by Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, L.L.C. is designed to provide additional natural gas capacity for two National Grid local distribution companies in New York. The project aims to alleviate supply shortfalls and pipeline constraints in the New York City market area, improve reliability for project shippers, provide benefits to the New York region, and reduce energy prices for consumers. The project was originally authorized by FERC in 2019 but faced delays due to denial of Clean Water Act Section 401 certifications by New York and New Jersey. FERC reissued the certificate of public convenience and necessity for NESE on August 28, 2025, based on existing and new evidence supporting the project's need and environmental analysis.
