Northern Bangkok Water Project

In June 1999, Thames Water (a subsidiary of RWE of the UK) won a five-year concession contract with the Provincial Water Authority of Thailand (PWA) to rehabilitate and manage water distribution in an area north of Bangkok. Thames Water also held a water production contract in Pathum Thani that it won in 1995, in which it was partners with Ch Karnchang. Thames Water was to reduce leakages in the Pathum Thani-Rangsit region through technology already in use in Indonesia and Malaysia. The high levels of water loss (up to 50% in some areas) had resulted in constant reduced pressure and supply failure. The project aimed to provide 24 hour pressurized supply through the north Bangkok area. The project required an estimated investment of US$25 million. The project reached financial closure in June 1999 and construction began in December 1999. The project concluded in 2004. According to reports, Thames managed to reduce the NRW in the area from 60% to 30% in the first three years of the contract. None None
