The project involves the construction of the Northwest Quadrant Freight Mobility Project – West Interchange, a new rail interchange and switching facility located south of Interstate 80 near Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah. The works include developing new rail infrastructure to relocate the Salt Lake, Garfield & Western Railway's switching operations from the existing East Yard to the new West Interchange, constructing new rail connections, track alignments, and associated signaling and support infrastructure. The project is designed to improve freight rail efficiency, enhance connectivity between regional and national rail networks, reduce truck traffic and roadway congestion, improve safety, and support future industrial and economic development in the Northwest Quadrant of Salt Lake County.
