Description

Description

US clean energy developer Avantus has finalised construction of the 125-MWac/159-MWdc Norton Solar project in Texas, delivering the plant to its owner, Toyota Tsusho America (TAI). The solar farm, located in Runnels County, reached substantial completion in October 2025. Toyota Motor North America will off-take all electricity generated by Norton Solar under a long-term virtual power purchase agreement (vPPA) with TAI. Avantus sold the project to TAI in November 2023 and oversaw its construction, while UK’s RES acted as engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Financing for the project was previously secured by TAI through an agreement with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. The solar farm was initially launched in August 2024 and was expected to come online in late 2025. The project created around 250 jobs at peak construction and will continue to contribute to the local economy during operations. Avantus is advancing a broader pipeline of around 24 GWdc of solar and 75 GWh of energy storage projects across the United States.
