NGTS is the local telephone operator for the Novosibisrk City in Northwest Russia. NGTS is specialized in providing local phone logs and currently has a capacity of 356,000 access lines allocated to individuals and businesses in the city. NGTS was privatized in December 1993, after the formation of Svyazinvest, the national holding company. Svyazinform held 38% of the common stock, and 51% of the voting rights by 1998. The employees and individual investors constituted the remaining shareholders. The company had digitized 23.3% its network, and had installed SDH equipment (fiber-optic link) for a small part of the city by 1998. NGTS held stake in the following companies: RINET, for internet services; NOVOCOM, inner-city and international long distance provider; NGTS-PAGE, paging company; and Sibtelesot, cellular operator. JSC "Novosibirsk city telephone network" merged into "Electrosvyaz" Novosibirsk oblast and became a subsidiary of SibirTelecom.
