The project entails the construction of a 425 Km long 400 kV transmission line between Jalandhar, Samba and Amargarh, a LILO of both circuits of Uri-Wagoora 400 kV line at Amargarh (on multi circuit towers), and the establishment of a 7x105 MVA with 400/220 kV GIS substation at Amargarh, India. This Northern Region Strengthening Scheme project (NRSS 29) is a part of the National Grid and is designed to carry over 1000 MWs of electricity from Punjab to the Kashmir Valley. The project company is NRSS XXIX Transmission Pvt Ltd and sponsor is Sterlite Grid 2, a Sterlite Technologies company. Sterlite Grid Ltd was awarded the ultra- mega transmission project (UMTP) on build-own-operate basis by the Ministry of Power, following a process of competitive tendering wherein Sterlite Grid emerged as the lowest bidder quoting an annual tariff of about INR 4.4 billion which was 5 per cent lower than the next highest bid. The total project cost is $447.2 million (INR 30 billion). Financing comprises a $335.5 million 21-year term loan and a $111.8 million equity. Lenders are SBI, OBC, Punjab National Bank, India Infrastructure Finance and PTC India Financial Services. Financial close occurred on 30 May 2016.
