NTPC is scouting for land in 16 states in India to set up nuclear power plants as part of its plan to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to the national net-zero goal. The company aims to expand its generation capacity to 150 GW by 2032 and contribute 30 GW towards the government's target of 100 GW atomic energy capacity by 2047. NTPC plans to build large plants with capacities of 1,500 MW and above, focusing on Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) technology and bulk purchasing of nuclear reactors to reduce costs. The company is also collaborating with technology providers. A 2,800 MW nuclear project at Banswara, Rajasthan, is under construction in joint venture with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd, marking NTPC's entry into nuclear power generation.
