The government has allowed zero customs duty on imports for nuclear power projects until 2035 to accelerate capacity addition and reduce electricity costs. This includes duty-free imports of nuclear fuels and reactor components, which will help lower project costs and make nuclear energy projects more economically viable, especially those involving foreign collaboration. The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is strengthening the supply chain for 10 newly approved 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) units by placing bulk orders, expanding the vendor base, promoting indigenous manufacturing, and encouraging MSME participation.
