The project involves conceptual design, basic design, detailed design, and construction of the first nuclear submarine vessel domestically in the Republic of Korea. The construction is expected to take place at Hanwha Ocean Geoje Shipyard, with the first submarine launch planned for the mid-2030s and operational by the late 2030s. The project includes development of a small reactor for the submarine, led by the Agency for Defense Development with participation from Doosan Enerbility, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and Korea Electric Power Corporation. |
