Description
Description | Australia will invest an initial A$12 billion to upgrade shipyard facilities at the Henderson Defence Precinct in Perth, Western Australia, to support a future fleet of nuclear-powered submarines. The investment will be spent over a decade to transform the shipbuilding and maintenance precinct, including equipping it with high-security dry docks for maintenance of nuclear-powered submarines, facilities to build landing craft, and eventually Japanese Mogami-class frigates. The US is also expected to use the shipyard for maintenance of its own nuclear-powered submarines. Total development costs could reach an estimated A$25 billion. |
