Description | The project involves the construction and licensing of nuclear waste disposal facilities in Canada, including used fuel or low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste deep geologic repositories, the Western Waste Management Facility at the Bruce site in Bruce County, and the near surface disposal facility at the Chalk River site. The Nuclear Waste Management Organization proposes to move Canada's estimated total of 5-million used fuel bundles an average distance of 1,725 km to Ignace in Northern Ontario, at a total cost of more than $550 million. |
