This project involves the construction of a 100 MW onshore wind power plant near Nukus in the Karakalpakstan region of Uzbekistan. The project, known as the Nukus Wind Project, is being developed by ACWA Power through its local subsidiary ACWA Power Wind Karatau FE LLC. It is structured as a public-private partnership under Uzbekistan’s renewable energy expansion framework, aimed at reducing reliance on fossil fuels and achieving sustainable energy goals. The plant, valued at $118 million, will be financed through $62 million in senior and subordinated debt facilities provided by a syndicate of international lenders, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), German Investment Corporation (DEG), and Proparco. DEG and Proparco will contribute $25 million each, while EBRD will provide $12 million. Once operational by the end of 2025, the wind farm will supply over 300 GWh of electricity annually, meeting the needs of more than 50,000 people and reducing CO2 emissions by 200,000 tonnes per year.
