The development cooperation programme objective in the health sector is: The poor and vulnerable population of Cambodia is healthier and exposed to fewer financial risks when using health services of sufficient quality. The objective of the project (improved nutritional status of mothers and children) is highly congruent with the objectives and starting points of the special initiative ONE WORLD - No Hunger (SEWOH) and is also complementary to the GIZ global project Food Security and Resilience Building. Specifically, a contribution is made to improving nutrition-related health services for people at risk of nutritional deprivation. Nutrition is named in the EU Joint Programming and in the BMZ's Chapeau Paper on the EU Strategy as an important aspect of poverty reduction in Cambodia and thus also supports the development cooperation programme objective. Despite steady economic growth, malnutrition is still a widespread problem in Cambodia, particularly for children under 5 and women of reproductive age (which can have a negative impact on newborns even during pregnancy). The causes of malnutrition and undernutrition are multifactorial and include numerous causes that overlap with the health sector. These include both structural (lack of or inadequate nutrition-specific health services, such as nutritional advice during pregnancy) and behavioral (e.g. nutrient-poor diets for children, inadequate nutritional knowledge among the population) causes. The nutritional situation in the country also varies substantially with geography and economic situation. The FC module contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. In addition, a contribution is made to Sustainable Development Goal 3.1: Reduction of maternal mortality, Sustainable Development Goal 3.2: Reduction of child mortality, and Sustainable Development Goal 3.8: Health care for all. Through the causal chain of effects, improved nutrition leads to increased school attendance (Sustainable Development Goal 4 quality education), at the same time better learning ability, less illness and thus reduced care requirements, and ultimately to better career opportunities and improved income (Sustainable Development Goal 1 no poverty). In addition, contributions to Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and Sustainable Development Goal 10 (less inequality) can also be derived, as poor and marginalized groups in particular will benefit from the measures. The recipient is the Kingdom of Cambodia, represented by the Ministry of Finance. However, the FC contribution is to be paid directly into the multi-donor program, which is managed by the World Bank. The project sponsors are the Cambodian Ministry of Health and the inter-ministerial National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development (NCDD), which is chaired by the Ministry of the Interior. Key outputs The German contribution is intended to integrate, promote and finance the provision of nutrition-specific (health) services into the health services provided by public institutions on the supply side (health service providers). On the demand side, the main aim is to support promotional and awareness-raising activities in order to bring about behavioural changes. The aim is to create a platform for integrated health and nutrition measures at the community level.
