Description

This is a Notice of Intent to Award to a Single Source. Provide funding for two positions. One position will implement the biological and wildlife habitat monitoring program at Conboy Lake NWR. Biological and habitat monitoring includes Oregon spotted frogs, Greater Sandhill cranes, elk, waterfowl, marsh birds, forest birds, hydrologic monitoring, and vegetation monitoring. Additionally, the intern will provide general refuge support including fencing, signing, trail maintenance, facility management, planning, and fostering partnerships. The intern will also be available to provide environmental education to local school groups. One position will provide all coordination, logistics, and facilitation of environmental education programs primarily for 3rd and 4th grade students within the Columbia Basin. When time permits, additional education and outreach programs will be provided for other grade levels, organizations, and community groups. The intern will work closely with refuge staff, partners, and volunteers to maximize the students' understanding of natural resources, Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, and the Columbia Basin. Additionally, the intern will provide targeted educational outreach for Columbia National Wildlife Refuge and the Mid-Columbia River National Wildlife Refuge Complex at special events such as the Sandhill Crane Festival and Salmon Summit. Another aspect of this position is field work essential to the upkeep of Columbia National Wildlife Refuge. During periods of time when education and outreach programs aren't scheduled, the intern will be involved in a variety of tasks including trail maintenance, invasive species removal, fence repair, graffiti removal, and other duties as necessary.
