Description | More than two dozen solar and wind clean energy projects in upstate New York, capable of powering over 2 million homes, are on hold due to increased construction costs caused by tariffs on imported materials such as steel, wind turbine parts, and solar panels. These projects are fully permitted and ready to start construction but have not broken ground because the tariffs have made the contracts financially unviable. Developers want to cancel and rebid contracts to reflect the increased costs, but the New York State Energy and Research Development Agency (NYSERDA) is not allowing contract renegotiations or cancellations, risking the loss of $3 billion in federal tax credits and about 3 gigawatts of clean energy for New York. |
