Description | The New York Power Authority (NYPA) plans to expand its nuclear reactor fleet in upstate New York by adding next-generation nuclear reactors to the grid. The project aims to add 1 gigawatt of power, enough to power about 1 million homes, at one or more sites. NYPA has hired Christopher Hanson, former chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, as a senior consultant to advise on nuclear energy financing and development. Todd Josifovski has been appointed as senior vice president for nuclear development to oversee the selection of an upstate community or communities willing to host a nuclear reactor. Construction is slated to begin in 2033. |
