The Nysted Offshore Wind Farm in the Baltic Sea is being utilized as a magnetic charging station for electric ships to recharge wirelessly. Research studies have been conducted to examine the impact of the wind farm on marine ecosystems, particularly on harbour porpoises. Initial studies showed porpoises avoided the area during the first year of operation, but activity increased over time, though still below pre-construction levels. Recent computer simulations suggest wind farm construction alone does not displace porpoises significantly. Ongoing research aims to understand the combined effects of underwater noise, vessel traffic, and habitat changes on marine wildlife.
