Description

Description

Verrus is proposing a multibuilding data center campus in southeast Salem, Oregon, called Oakline at Mill Creek. The project could represent more than $5 billion in investment and create at least 75 permanent jobs. The campus would be built near Turner Road SE and Deer Park Drive SE in Salem's Mill Creek Corporate Center, covering roughly 75 acres with three buildings developed over several years. The first phase would use electricity in the dozens of megawatts and employ a closed-loop cooling system with water use comparable to a handful of sit-down restaurants. Verrus plans to pay for all project-specific utility infrastructure, including an on-site electrical substation, and operate the campus as a flexible load to reduce electricity use during peak grid stress. The project is allowed under the existing Employment Center zoning, so no rezoning vote is required, but city reviews for buildings, grading, utilities, roads, stormwater, and landscaping are still needed. A legally binding community benefits agreement is expected to be negotiated.
