Description | The University of Rhode Island is implementing a geothermal energy system to heat and cool the new Ocean Frontiers Building on the Narragansett Bay Campus. This building will replace the old Horn Laboratory with modern labs and is part of the Bay Campus revitalization project. The geothermal system is expected to reduce energy use significantly and provide long-term savings with minimal maintenance. A geothermal test well was drilled to assess feasibility, funded by a $100,000 grant from PPL Corporation. The building is slated to open in Fall 2028. |
