Description | The project entails the fibre network expansion to 500,000 homes in the Western Cape of South Africa. Sponsor is local operator Octotel and its fibre rollout will allow the company to reach areas that currently have no access to fibre. The expansion will allow Octotel to double the size of their network over the next 3 – 5 years and to drive sustainable digital inclusion in South Africa. The project is financed with a $115.45 million (ZAR2.0 billion) sustainable financing package from Rand Merchant Bank (RMB). The loan is structured in accordance with the Loan Market Association (LMA) Social Loan Principles (SLP) and is designed to finance projects and activities that address social issues, in this instance access to fibre and high-speed, affordable connectivity.
