Description

Description

The sun rises as you board the little ship as a deckhand with nothing but your name - and neither home nor family left to return to. The ship sets sail for the Sea of the 365 Islands, a different island with different sights each day. You slowly discover their mysteries and create bonds with the inhabitants - especially those who, like you, are drifting between the islands, longing for a place to belong. Eventually you might even realise you already have achieved your goal - finding a place to call home - on the very boat you used in your search and with the people you have met and helped. OE is a cyclic immigrant saga about traveling in search of somewhere to call home. The story is told through a unique game loop where each island is locked to a date, and can only be visited on that real-life day in the month/year. Players are encouraged to play casually for a few minutes daily, with the promise that they will have something new to discover every day, like a daily comic strip. With the lure that when they come back later, they will be able to go back to previous islands and complete quests - to get closure on the fate of each society. OE aims to bridge the gap between casual sim/farm games and serious narrative games, inspired by free-2-Play design patterns like notifications, waiting timers and unlocks. A game that uses the passage of time in real-life, as a parallel to the in-game story to create a more meaningful experience over a longer duration. It seeks to elevate the mechanics of casual games to artistic heights, in a similar way to how indie innovators have elevated genres like the Platformer or the Sim game. OE’s setting is fictional but relates to our modern world - through modern myths that make up the locations in the game. It tells a story of people who become unmoored, for a variety of material and emotional reasons - a big story fit for the 21st century, where more and more people find themselves emigrating, immigrating, and becoming nomads.
