Ohio is experiencing a significant data center building boom, with nearly 80 new data centers potentially being built by 2030. The state currently hosts over 200 data centers, with 114 located around Columbus. Major tech companies like Google, Amazon Web Services, Meta, and Microsoft are significant landowners in Central Ohio, collectively owning more than 5,000 acres. These data centers are large-scale facilities requiring substantial power and water resources, contributing to economic development and job creation in the region. The state offers tax incentives and local governments provide additional tax agreements to attract these investments. However, there is growing community pushback and legislative activity concerning environmental and infrastructure impacts.
