The project continues the project measures of phases 1 to 3 by making a further payment of EUR 10 million into the capital of the Okapi Fund in the fourth phase, which will focus in particular on more intensive support for the Kahuzi-Biega National Park due to the considerable additional need to combat the dynamics of deforestation. In Phase IV, the Okapi Fund (i) is further operationalized using international management, environmental and social standards and the connection with the ICCN National Park Authority and co-management partners is intensified, (ii) the capacities of its management are adapted and strengthened to the needs of the fund for a stable operational phase, (iii) the generation of capital returns through the foundation capital continues to be carried out professionally, (iv) further protected areas submit applications for funding from the fund, here in the sense of promoting exchange between the already funded and the new protected areas, among other things with regard to curbing possible existing deforestation and exchange of lessons learned from neighboring measures (v) in the context of measures to curb the dynamics of deforestation and thus increased socio-economic measures to be implemented and training and further education as well as improved communication (including the Bukavu Dialogue) and (vi) concrete contributions to the annual greenhouse gas reduction amounts of the previous year are demonstrated.
