Old Creek Bridge Replacement

The bridge replacement project is under construction by Papich Construction Company, Inc., with in-creek work planned June 1, 2022. The project proposes to address existing geometric and seismic deficiencies of the existing northbound Old Creek bridge (Bridge Number 49-0070R) by constructing bridge rails that meet updated roadside safety hardware testing requirements and providing standard shoulder widths via replacement of the existing bridge structure. Other work includes adding rock slope protection, upgrading guardrail, upgrading end treatments, and adding preparation for plant establishment. The new bridge would comply with current seismic, hydraulic, and structural standards. The proposed bridge would maintain the existing two traffic lanes and provide improvements that would include bridge rails that would comply with the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) and standard shoulders that would accommodate a Class III bicycle route. The bridge approaches would also be modified to match the existing roadway with the new bridge. Traffic will be detoured during construction. Bicycle and vehicle traffic will be detoured onto the southbound Old Creek bridge, with an optional bike detour through San Luis Obispo County roads, and both the northbound and southbound traffic will have one dedicated lane in each direction through the construction duration, expected to run through spring 2023.
