Old Orchard Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) was constructed in 1985 and services a small neighborhood community of 400 people in a highly desirable Lake Ontario shoreline area of Grimsby. This pumping station has a history of sanitary spills to the environment (Lake Ontario) as a result of increase flows from wet weather events (rain). Description

Description

Old Orchard Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) was constructed in 1985 and services a small neighborhood community of 400 people in a highly desirable Lake Ontario shoreline area of Grimsby. This pumping station has a history of sanitary spills to the environment (Lake Ontario) as a result of increase flows from wet weather events (rain). It appears that this problem is being exacerbated by the impacts of climate change. In addition the pumping station has reached the end of its service life and this is compounding the challenge to transfer the increased volume of sewage to the Baker Road Wastewater Treatment Plant. This project will reduce CSO (Combined Sewer Overflows) to the lake and beach front areas as well as extending the capabilities of the station to meet “Levels of Service” for another 20 years. The project includes: • Forcemain replacement • Valve and bypass chamber • Pumps (two) • Process piping • Security upgrade (e.g. gates and hatches), • Electrical control panel complete with a new weather shelter • Instrumentation controls.
