The old Pfizer headquarters at 235 East 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan is undergoing a major office-to-residential conversion project. The project involves converting the existing office building into an apartment complex with 1,600 units, making it the nation's largest office-to-residential project once completed. The adjacent building at 219 East 42nd Street is also being expanded by more than 19 floors. The project includes ground-floor retail, a rooftop swimming pool, a fitness center, and 100,000 square feet of amenities. The project was slated for completion in 2027 but has encountered structural issues with buckling support beams and sagging floors, leading to evacuation and street closures.
