Description

Description

The project consists of building a community room for community members in the Town of O’Leary, Prince Edward Island. The community room will be built within a newly constructed community care residence (not part of this project) for seniors and other adults challenged with issues of daily living. The community room will be located in the centre of town and thereby more accessible to those who lack transportation. The Ultimate Recipient is the Community Seniors Cooperative Ltd., a charitable non-profit co-operative organization founded to develop an affordable and modern community care residence within the Town of O’Leary. Currently, the Town and its surrounding communities lack an accessibly designed community space with the specific intent of offering intergenerational social programming. The scope of the work includes building a 20x40-foot, fully accessible community room located within a newly constructed community care facility. The room is intended for community members of all ages from the town and surrounding areas to use for intergenerational social activities such as exercise programs, playing card and games, making crafts, and hosting musical and educational events. When there is no ongoing programming, the space will be available as place for seniors and their friends and family to socialize. The room has the capability of being subdivided into two equal spaces for smaller gatherings and events, providing additional flexibility. The project will benefit the community by providing additional community space and an enriching environment to help improve mental and physical wellbeing and reduce social isolation among community members. The room will be the only purpose-built, fully accessible community space in the Town available to all on a regular basis.
