The project involves using geostationary satellites to collect solar energy in space and wirelessly transmit it to a receiving station in Xian through microwaves. Hong Kong's research institutions are proposed to contribute technologies such as transmissive metasurfaces for microwave beam generation, anti-reflection nanocone coatings for satellite panels, and redox flow batteries for energy storage. Hong Kong could negotiate to import a share of the solar output under a Greater Bay Area energy cooperation strategy, with potential electricity transmission to Guangdong province and other Greater Bay Area cities. |
