Old Mutual Malawi, a financial services company in Malawi, and Old Mutual Infrastructure Fund, a infrastructure focused investment fund in Malawi, in partnership with IFC, are looking to collaborate on the project development of purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) facilities in Malawi (“Project”). The Project will seek to develop a scalable approach to address the acute shortage of safe, affordable student housing in Malawi with a purely private sector model. The Project aims to support a phased approach to establish of facilities for at least 1000 beds under a private sector model in 3 cities Blantyre, Zomba and Mzuzu. The proposed Project requires early-stage project development, including environmental and sustainability due diligence, and a comprehensive market and feasibility study, before proceeding to the investment stage. IFC intends to provide project preparation support required through managing and funding external consultants and deploying IFC's in-house expertise and resources to achieve financial close of the Project.
