On Board Bus Security Cameras

The proposed project involves the installation of on-board security cameras on all Durham Regional Transit (DRT) fleet, including specialized and conventional vehicles as well as supervisors’ vehicles. It is estimated that 193 Conventional, 33 Specialized and 6 Supervisor vehicles will have cameras installed on them. The proposed state-of-the-art on-board camera technologies in the buses would enhance customer security and service quality by providing video records on a cloud solution. It is noted the proposed project is consistent with the Region’s strategic direction to provide an integrated transportation system for the movement of residents. Scope of project has expanded to include a web user interface, two additional cameras per vehicle, enhanced video management software, auto pilot for fully automated video retrieval, dashboard reporting, and diagnostics for DVR and vehicle health notifications.
