On water and by bike along the River Szamos: flood protection and spatial development in the Szatmár region

The project aimed to assist the investigation of the section of the River Szamos delimited by flood protection dikes between Vásárosnamény and the border. The river regulation concept constituted an urgent task. Design of the waterway enabled the traffic of watercraft of small dive. The large water riverbed rearrangement concept had a great impact on the rehabilitation of dead riverbeds valuable from the nature protection and tourism points of view. The environmental impact study completed in the framework of the project made it possible that interventions be performed by taking nature and environment protection interests fully into consideration. Funding was also used for completing the design of water quality loss reduction locations and the construction plan for covering the crown of flood protection dikes.
