Description

Climate change in the region has caused more intense bursts of rainfall which have resulted in recurring flooding issues. The town is therefore looking to adapt its critical infrastructure to climate change by improving its resiliency to extreme weather events. The project involves an upgrade of 900M of water infrastructure, and granular/asphalt, an upgrade of the storm outfall located on Onondaga Street (the current outfall is 900mm corrugated metal pipe), an upsizing of the town’s current storm main to mitigate flood issues and accommodate future storm events, an upgrade to its sanitary overflow line at Lift Station 5 to mitigate flooding issues, and the installation of a ‘duckbill’ to ensure that flood waters do not compromise the overflow pipe and allow raw sewage to discharge in the event of heavy rains or flood situation.
