Description

Description

The Onboard Technology Assets Program (OTAP) will replace end-of-life radio, onboard and back-end computer, and camera systems on transit vehicles, and peripheral equipment, to enhance systems performance, improve fleet safety, and extend life of affected systems by up to 15 years. New equipment and systems will ensure safety for riders, drivers, and surrounding pedestrians and vehicles. If not addressed, buses would not be safe to operate and/or require more maintenance to address equipment issues, affecting bus performance and transit capacity. Investing in Canada Infrastruture Program (ICIP) funding will procure the equipment listed below and install it on about 1,200 revenue and non-revenue vehicles (unless otherwise stated) out of TransLink’s fleet of about 1,700 vehicles, including 4 ferries. Radio Systems: Replace existing radio system on up to 1,200 buses with equipment supplied by the public-sector E-Comm 911, to integrate with the region’s first responder system and provide a more complete and reliable network for voice communication; Vehicle Communication Router (VCR): Install about 1,100 VCRs to provide bandwidth to communicate vehicle location and other data for the current and expanded fleet; Bus Security Camera System: Replace end-of-life analog system on up to 920 buses with a higher resolution, digital camera system to improve security; and Vehicle Logic Unit and Computer Aided Dispatch: Replace outdated onboard computer (vehicle logic units) and touch screens on up to 1,200 buses with an up-to-date system that has current security updates and can be maintained. ICIP funding also will procure about 8 extra Bus-in-a-Box test kits and decommission all removed equipment, including the existing network of radio towers, antennae, and related equipment.
