Description
Description | The project involves financing the expansion of One Acre Fund (OAF)'s business activities. The aim of the project is to generate additional income for small farmers in sub-Saharan Africa by providing and financing seeds and fertilizers through OAF. It is aimed directly at small farmers whose income is not sufficient to ensure that their households are fed all year round. The average income of OAF customers is USD 850 per year per household. With financing volumes averaging around USD 70, OAF reaches a part of the population that has so far largely had no access to financing for agricultural products. Through the institutional support of OAF, the project also contributes to the creation of local jobs. Over a period of five years, a total of up to EUR 10.0 million (plus EUR 10.0 million for inventory checks) in SEWOH grant funds will be made available, which OAF will use on a revolving basis over five years to purchase fertilizers and seeds worth at least USD 20.0 million and make these available to small farmers via a credit structure adapted to harvest cycles. The SEWOH funds are intended to generate at least USD 40.0 million in additional income for small farmers in countries covered by the BMZ special initiative ONE WORLD, No Hunger (SEWOH). |
