Ontario Green Building Standards Rollback

proposed

The Ontario government is proposing changes to roll back municipal enhanced development standards that require developers to include sustainable design features such as improved park access, tree canopy, electric vehicle-ready parking spots, bird-friendly window coatings, and other green building standards beyond the provincial building code. These changes aim to standardize building requirements and reduce costs to get homes to market faster, but critics argue they will reduce municipalities' ability to make communities more livable and resilient to climate change.
