Description | The Ontario Line is a 15.6-kilometre subway project in Toronto designed to alleviate pressure on the city's transit system. Tunnelling has officially begun for the downtown segment, with two tunnel boring machines digging twin tunnels from Exhibition Station to just west of the lower Don River. The line will have 15 stops, connecting with multiple TTC lines and GO train services, and is expected to carry close to 400,000 riders per day. The project aims to reduce crowding on the busiest stretch of Line 1 by up to 15% during peak periods. The target opening is now in the early 2030s, with an estimated cost of $29.5 billion, including $4 billion from the federal government. |
