Description | Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has approved 14 renewable energy projects across the province with a combined capacity of more than 1,300 MW under the first window of the energy stream of the Long-Term 2 (LT2) procurement process. The projects include 12 solar and 2 wind projects, with 20-year contracts awarded. The three largest contracts are for 200 MW each from the Dunns Valley Solar plant, the Gichigami Wind Project, and the Northern Breeze Wind Project. These projects are expected to start commercial operations by May 1, 2030. The LT2 procurement target was increased from 5,000 MW to 7,500 MW in December 2024, aiming to secure new electricity resources through energy and capacity streams. |
