Ontario Small Modular Reactors Expansion

Ontario plans to add up to 10,000 MW of new nuclear capacity including four Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as part of its 'Energy for Generations' strategy. The project includes refurbishing existing nuclear plants, new large-scale nuclear generation, and building the first commercial grid-scale SMR in North America at the Darlington New Nuclear Project site. The first SMR is targeted to be in service by 2030, with all four SMRs operational by 2035. The project aims to meet rising electricity demand and support energy security and critical minerals development.
