Description
Description | The Open Energy Sector Program aims to support the Georgian state in expanding and capitalizing on generation capacities from renewable energies by investing in the electricity transmission sector. At the same time, export capacity is to be strengthened and transmission losses are to be minimized through energy efficiency measures in the electricity grid. In addition, pilot investments in the field of renewable energies can also be financed within the framework of the Open Energy Sector Program. This is intended to further promote Georgia's economic and social development overall. To this end, investments in the Georgian energy sector will be financed with the help of an FC development loan of up to EUR 100 million. The project is designed as an open program and is intended to give the Georgian side the opportunity to independently set priorities for investments in the energy sector within the framework of the agreed sectoral focus topics. The expansion of transmission capacities through the construction of transmission lines and switchgear is necessary in order to connect the privately financed power plants from renewable energies (mainly hydropower) to the electricity grid in the coming years. The investment component is to be accompanied by an accompanying measure worth EUR 100 million. EUR 1 million will be added to the investment, which will support the Georgian partners in building up further capacities in the energy sector. In particular, the adaptation to EU standards and the harmonization of the electricity markets with Georgia's neighboring countries are relevant here in order to promote the regional integration of the electricity grids that has already begun. The target group of the project is all consumers connected to the grid. Since the connection rate in Georgia is almost 100%, both private households and companies will benefit. The project has positive effects in terms of environmental and climate protection (reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as environmental and resource protection). |
