OpenAI Stargate AI Infrastructure Project

OpenAI is investing $500 billion over four years to build a vertically integrated AI infrastructure program called Stargate. The project targets 10 gigawatts of AI-dedicated capacity by the end of 2025, compressing a decade of hyperscale expansion into two years. It involves constructing five U.S. megasites hosting hundreds of thousands of AI accelerators, custom interconnects, and energy co-generation units, designed for long-term energy integration with renewable grids and nuclear co-location. The goal is to give OpenAI complete control over compute, power, and networking, enabling it to become a vertically integrated intelligence utility owning the entire value chain from silicon to cognition.
