CEP is the only European network organisation for probation bodies and national authorities, providing leadership, support, unity and representation by sharing EU objectives and priorities in criminal justice. Through its network and activities CEP provides for the EC a direct conduit to probation bodies&practitioners. CEP has 86 members representing 39 EU countries/42 EU jurisdictions. CEP goals: bring together practitioners, managers, academics, stakeholders and others working in the field of probation and criminal justice; improve professionalism in this field; raise the profile of probation on national and EU level. CEP achieves the goals through exchanging knowledge, experience and information; compiling and disseminating information concerning legislation, jurisprudence and probation practice in EU countries in the field of community sanctions and measures; working with the EC, CoE and other EU bodies; supporting and contributing to scientific research in the field of community sanctions and measures; organising conferences, seminars, webinars, expert group meetings etc; participating and contributing to transnational projects, where appropriate, for the development and dissemination of new initiatives in community sanction measures; providing expert assistance in the development of legislation and practice regarding community sanctions and measures; meeting regularly with officials of the EU and its agencies to coordinate activities, develop shared objectives; publishing information on developments and best practices in probation, community sanctions and resettlement of offenders in EU in media managed by CEP. CEP actions address topics: Framework Decisions 829&947, violent extremism/post-release treatment, mental health, domestic violence, foreign nationals, sex offenders, technology in probation, alternatives to pre-trial detention and assessment in probation. CEP maintains the use of digital and innovative resources to enhance communication with members.
