Description

Description

Objective Optimization of the energy balance through biogas production from sewage sludge. In Jordan, sewage sludge is usually temporarily stored on the site of the sewage treatment plants and, after partial drying, improperly dumped in household waste landfills. In addition to the risk of pollutants and germs seeping into the groundwater, considerable potential for energy generation and the associated and urgently needed cost reductions remain unused. Energy-optimized and environmentally friendly sewage sludge treatment also contributes to reducing greenhouse gases. The FC module aims to reduce the enormous energy-related cost pressure on the subsidized sewage treatment plants by introducing innovative technologies for sewage sludge treatment and the energetic use of the biogas obtained in this way. By reducing greenhouse gases, the project contributes to fulfilling Jordan's international voluntary climate policy commitment and is thus in line with the strategic goals of the German Federal Government's DKTI. The German FC has financed the first biogas plant in Jordan (Wadi Shalalla), which is a model project for the entire Middle East region. The Jordanian government is very interested in implementing more biogas plants nationwide. The project also builds on the experience gained in the wastewater sector as part of the FC Climate Protection Programme module.
