Description | The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to alter the alignment of the Orange Gate-Marine Drive twin-tunnel project following objections from Marine Drive residents. The project involves constructing twin tunnels between Orange Gate and D Road at Churchgate, next to Wankhede Stadium. The realignment aims to preserve the heritage precinct, reduce vehicular congestion, and minimize air pollution during construction. The preferred altered alignment shifts the tunnel entry-exit points near Jawahar Bal Bhavan, close to Charni Road station, and could reduce project costs by about ₹700 crore. The project is expected to be completed by December 2028, providing seamless connectivity between Mumbai's eastern and western coasts. |
