Description | MMRDA's Orange Gate underground tunnel project involves the design and construction of a major underground road corridor connecting key parts of Mumbai through a high-capacity subterranean transport system developed beneath densely populated urban areas. The project aims to improve Mumbai's east-west connectivity, reduce congestion, and cut peak-hour travel time from 40 minutes to nearly 5 minutes through a 4.8-km twin tunnel corridor. It uses advanced Slurry Shield Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) technology and includes installation of permanent segmental tunnel lining rings. |
