The current twin steel truss bridges are aging and unable to meet traffic demands. The replacement project is estimated to cost between $5 billion and $7.5 billion, will involve 24 separate building contracts, and is expected to take up to 15 years to complete. The environmental review is underway, with full approval expected in 2026. The new bridge will be tolled and funded by Washington State Department of Transportation, Oregon Department of Transportation, and the US Department of Transportation. |
