Description | Construction has begun on the new Otay Mesa East Port of Entry using a 'crushing operation' that recycles excess rubble from San Diego Airport's Terminal One project. The recycled materials are used as base for buildings and roadways at the new border crossing, reducing costs and environmental impact. The project is overseen by the San Diego Association of Governments and the California Department of Transportation, funded by federal, state, and regional funds including a $150 million federal grant. The U.S. portion of the port of entry is expected to be completed by late 2028 or early 2029. |
