The project Our Europe: Learning about the EU aims to increase knowledge about the EU in various ways at our upper secondary school: highlighting the EU topics in our current upper secondary school curriculum, as well as offering our students and other stakeholders a chance to participate in various EU-themed events at school. In our project we will help our students to learn about the European Union and different European topics and thus increase their knowledge of the EU and Europe. The topics include information about the institutions, laws, political decisions and challenges of the EU. The project also means finding out about our common European cultural and historical heritage and European diversity. The project aims to teach a comprehensive basic knowledge about the EU (its institutions, principles and political decisions) and Europe (its history, heritage, values, diversity, cultures). And by participating in the different activities offered by the project, our students will find themselves part of the EU and strengthen their European identity, and how they can shape Europe as active European citizens. The project will involve students at the upper secondary school level, ages 15-18, as well as their teachers. It consists of four segments: . Firstly, we will study how the EU functions, what are its main institutions, its history and future in different lessons. Secondly, there will be a special study unit named “Our Europe” offered to our students, which will include project work on one EU-related topic of their choice and attending a studia generalia lecture series. Thirdly, there will be a European theme week that will be celebrated during the second week of May. Lastly, the school’s drama group will adapt, rehearse and perform a different European play each year during the project.
