Description

Description

The project intends to have outdoor learning areas in every elementary school in Nova Scotia. Outdoor learning promotes healthy habits for students and helps reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The objective of the program is to ensure that every elementary school community has access to funding to allow for creation of an outdoor learning area. This program will ensure a lasting positive legacy for our students beyond the current pandemic. Some examples of common elements in an outdoor learning environment are: - Creation of a school garden - Outdoor seating area using nature-based elements, rocks, tree stumps - Covering/shelter from elements (tents, shade providing structure) - Outdoor performance area The Department has project designs developed that will be shared with regions/CSAP to select in concert with their local school communities. Funding would be provided to each school community (via the regional/CSAP operations team) up to $25,000 per school depending on project type. Guidance will be provided to our school communities on how to incorporate traditional knowledge into their selected projects.
