Description
Description | The project intends to have outdoor learning areas in every elementary school in Nova Scotia. Outdoor learning promotes healthy habits for students and helps reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The objective of the program is to ensure that every elementary school community has access to funding to allow for creation of an outdoor learning area. This program will ensure a lasting positive legacy for our students beyond the current pandemic. Some examples of common elements in an outdoor learning environment are: - Creation of a school garden - Outdoor seating area using nature-based elements, rocks, tree stumps - Covering/shelter from elements (tents, shade providing structure) - Outdoor performance area The Department has project designs developed that will be shared with regions/CSAP to select in concert with their local school communities. Funding would be provided to each school community (via the regional/CSAP operations team) up to $25,000 per school depending on project type. Guidance will be provided to our school communities on how to incorporate traditional knowledge into their selected projects. |
